Phytosociological surveying within the DiGraSo project at the Breiteberg and Steinberg sites in Germany

The first phytosociological survey within the DiGraSo project in Germany took place on 9 May 2025 at the Breiteberg and Steinberg sites. The survey was carried out by project researchers from the Technical University of Liberec, Lenka Pavlů and Jan Titěra, together with project researcher Vilém Pavlů from the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. Field plot localisation and marking were ensured by project partner Julian Escher from the Senckenberg Museum. During the survey, data were collected on the cover of the moss layer and the cover of all vascular plant species within 2 × 2 metre plots.

This field activity represents an important component of the international research focused on systematic monitoring of species composition and spatial structure of grassland vegetation. The collected data will provide a basis for detailed ecological analyses examining the relationships between soil microbial communities and higher plants in species-poor and species-rich grasslands within protected areas.
